Year 4 / Year 5

Welcome to the Year 4/5 class pages. Our teacher is Mrs McFarlane and we are helped by teaching assistants Mrs Oldham and Mrs Semple.

Our morning activities focus on English and Maths. On Friday mornings we go swimming. Our afternoons are different each day:

Monday: Whole School Assembly

Tuesday: Computing, PSHCE and Music

Wednesday: Outdoor PE, Music and Singing Assembly

Thursday: Topic (History / Geography / Art / DT)

Friday: RE, French and Well Done Assembly, Swimming

Sometimes our activities vary to accommodate special events.

This term our topic is Ancient Greece where we will finding out how the Greek empire changed and grew, and how their great thinkers, writers, athletes, artists, politicians and architects have influenced our lives today. We will also be looking at how important the first Olympic games were to the modern Olympic games.
In English we will be reading Greek myths and using features of these to write our own Greek myth.
In Maths we will be exploring fractions, in particular finding equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, ordering and comparing fractions and finding fractions of amounts, so we would be very grateful if you could continue to support your child to learn times tables and division facts as these are key when working with fractions.

The class news sub-page will be updated throughout the school year with news and pictures of events and activities in class.
